Buick Flagship? CEO Dan Akerson says maybe.

Just last week GM CEO Mark Reuss said that Buick may introduce a flagship model that would be a "more beautiful Porsche Panamera." Fast forward to the present day and Buick CEO Dan Akerson is back peddling a bit.

Akerson said in a recent interview that Buick may not need a flagship model. "Buick has to have a unique position between Chevrolet and Cadillac for a lot of reasons. I hate to call it 'tweener', but it's a 'tweener' brand, and you have to know where Buick starts and ends. Probably (need a flagship), but I'm not sure yet," Akerson told Automotive News.

Do you think Buick could use a flagship model, or would that start to conflict with Cadillac? It is a delicate situation when you consider Buick as the in between brand.

Mark Reuss is not the CEO of GM. He is president of GM North America. Dan Akerson is the global chairman and CEO....

That is a crazy statement, maybe to them it will be a more beautiful panamera but not too the masses.

I have to say that the Panamera looks far better in person than it does in pictures. perhaps Buick just has to make a more photogenic Panamera to pull this one out.

the older Panamera design will be easier to beat, not too sure about the new one:

If you think that the Panamera is ugly then that just means that it will even easier for Buick to make something that looks better. Many station wagons don't look well proportioned, so as long as Buick avoids this it should work out fine. It would be cool if someone did a speculative rendering of what the Bick flagship could look like.

yes but the auto buying public consists of much more than just familyguybrian....

no speculative renders needed, its just the Opel Monza concept...
