Buick and Opel to become more closely tied together

GM CEO Dan Akerson says that GM's flanker brands Buick and Opel will become more closely tied together product-wise to help improve sales. The Buick is basically the same car as the Opel Mokka in China and Europe.

Does this just mean there will be more of these twin vehicles coming out? Is that a big change to not sell the same car under a different brand in a different country?

Buick and Opel are already very intermingled, the Buick Regal for example is the Opel Insignia elsewhere. And the Gamma platform underpinning the Encore is an Opel platform that GM is getting quite a bit of mileage out of, using it for Encore/Mokka/Trax, Sonic/Aveo, Spark and the Cobalt before its murder.

This is a smart move that should have been done AGES ago, just look at the rockstar success Ford is enjoying by bringing over Euro spec models for domestic audiences..

It's come to a point where every other manufacturer is using the same trick in the book. It helps cuts down cost I guess.

There aren't going to be many american cars that aren't shared with europe models in the future. It's the smarter thing to do.

people like to complain that american cars aren't as refined as european cars.

so what does america do? well since we own and work together with some of those euro companies, just take their cars?

Cheaper than developing cars to try to match their cars.

If you can't beat em. Steal em.
